More like Colourpopped.

CP foundation

I had some relatively high hopes for the new Colourpop “No Filter Foundation”. Like, decently high hopes. A nice shade range so that a wide variety of people can have a chance to try his product. Though, I am not too sure about the different undertones and how well they vary and translate on people’s skin. I did watch a few beautubers’ reviews to get some idea of what to potentially expect. Now, I don’t have flawless skin. It’s pretty textured and my pores like to visit more often than not. I have had zero work done on my face so, results will definitely vary for me. Nevertheless, I still wanted to give it a try and for $12 each, that did not seem like a bad deal.

Before I put on foundation, I used my Son & Park beauty water to clean off my face, Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta® Exfoliating Moisturizer and Illuminating Rose Gold Facial Serum by Cosmedica Skincare. Nothing new. Primed my face with Touch in Sol primer (I love this primer) and did a little color correcting. All these steps are my normal routine and figured, might as well do my basic routine to see how it would perform with all these products on my face. Nothing crazy right? …right?

I hate color matching online with a passion, but for $12, getting two to mix seemed fine to me. I picked up Medium 110 and Medium Dark 120 to mix to attempt to make my shade. This starts the beginning of the end of this foundation for me.

After figuring out that there was a twist stopper on the pump, the product has a very liquidity consistency. I was already concerned when I saw the product rolling down the back of my hand like water. Nevertheless, I gave it the old college try.

I did not enjoy its application. It seemed slightly patchy and hard to blend in spots. At the time, I was using the Colourpop foundation brush and it was not the greatest. I didn’t have another beauty sponge at the time for comparison, so, I apologize in advance for that.

I finished my face like normal, but I still wasn’t thrilled by it. Guess I was expecting something more, considering other reviewers were raving about the color and coverage of it. It was nothing to write back home to mom about though.

Okay, not too shabby…

Doesn’t look too bad at first. I could see some patchiness, but, I didn’t want to cake the foundation on. I went about my evening and when it was time to take it off, the horror began. Please don’t mind my lipstick! I had dinner and was winding down to take my makeup off.

What in the world happened to my face?!

This was such a mess. It broke apart around my lips, nose and mouth. The level of oiliness on my T-zone was unacceptable, even though I used plenty of setting powder and I had been wearing it for less than 5 hours. The foundation clung onto my texture this badly was just insanity. I’m glad I was home and did not have to go anywhere for hours with this “look”. I showed this picture on the r/makeupaddiction Discord and another user had very similar issues with her foundation as well.

As of right now, I hate this foundation. Other than the price, I saw no redeeming qualities of it. I maybe give it another shot with a different primer, setting powder and beauty sponge to see if anything changes or maybe I’ll like it more.

Until then, I’m sticking with my Too Faced foundation in Praline.

Busted and blue.

Now playing: Little Dark Age – MGMT

While scrolling through Instagram, I got some inspiration to do something a bit different and challenging with my makeup. A bruised, battered and badass look. I saw Nica Phan do this look and felt inclined and inspired to try it out.

I’ve never done anything like this so, Google was definitely my friend for this journey. My newfound confidence in my makeup application had me excited for something fun and out of the box. I was ready for this self challenge.

Neesa61st RULE: You do not talk about FIGHT CLUB.

For this look, I wanted to give some untouched makeup some love, so I decided to use my Morphe 35B palette to use for the black eye. It had all the colors I needed to make it look as realistic as I possibly could make it for my first attempt. Next time I’ll take pictures of step by step shots of my process.

I did my typical makeup prep because I was still doing a normal eye look on my right eye.

The colors and my phone.

Brushes used:

  • Sephora Everyday Eye Brush Set
  • Sephora Face the Day Brush Set: Smudge Brush
  • Morphe MB19
  • BH Cosmetics 103
  • BH Cosmetics 105
  • BH Cosmetics V11 (for face powder to diffuse)
  • Unnamed dupe Unicorn brush from years ago. Sorry!

For this look, I used quite a few colors to try to blend it out as best and make it look as organic as possible.

I initially laid down Chicory on the inner corner onto the bridge of my nose, lower lash line, brow bone, above the eyebrow, and on my cheek as the transition color. Wanted to build up the actual bruise color, so I used Beets Me and a mixture of Grape Pop and Purplish for all the dark bruised areas. I deepened the color using Denim with a mixture of Frosty and Pebble to make the black color a little softer. Sunshine and Brilliant were perfect for blending out more of the purple color to look more brownish like the bruise was starting to heal around the edges. I eventually went back in with Chicory to revive some of the red color around everything.

I think what really pulled everything together to blend it was using my MAC Studio Fix powder over everything to really diffuse the colors and look more “skinlike” than just having all these color be really bright and vibrant.

For the “cuts” and dried blood on the nose and lips, I used Chicory, Beets Me, Frosty, and Grape Pop with a Morphe MB19 brush to make some of the lines then used the fluffy crease brush in the Sephora Everyday Eye Brush Set to blend out the edges of everything. I blotted Mum from Melt Cosmetic on my lips and smudged it into the eye shadows around my mouth to have no defined edges.

For my right eye, it was pretty simple:

Simple, yet effective glam.

Used I ♥ Makeup Peach and Glow highlight & illuminator duo kit all over my lid and up to my brow bone. Mixed Watermelon and Brilliant from the Morphe 35B palette on top for a more coral/peachy color and diffuse some of the glitter from the Peach and Glow. Popped some Stila glitter eye shadow in Kitten Karma from the inner corner to center of the lid and deepened the outer V and crease with Frosty, Pebble and Beets Me. Lastly, I placed Colourpop’s Tassel on my inner corner to open the eye a little more for the final OOMPH.

For the wing, I decided that gel or liquid liner would be too shiny and distracting from the look.  I decided to smoke out the wing with Pebble and smoked out the waterline to connect everything.

I think I did a pretty swell job. Ha. Bruise pun. However, I do wish I used some greens in there to really make it look like an “older” bruise. I’m still pretty happy with the overall look and will try to improve on it in the future. Can’t wait to try more looks and give more of my untouched palettes more love.

Wish I was 27 again.

Now playing: Lagoon – Favored Nations

Sorry for the long break. I was feeling pretty uninspired and unmotivated to even touch makeup for a little. Especially after my first attempt with the new Colourpop foundation. Figures after that little rut was over, I got hit with a Summer cold. Of course. Thank you, life!

Now that slump is over, let’s get on to some makeup! Melt Cosmetics did another limited edition release, the Twenty Seven palette. I can say that I was initially intrigued when the colors were being revealed on their Instagram. That intrigued came to a hard stop when I saw it all together and my reservations for the palette started to set in. Now, the Gemini palette was such an interesting palette that I had to set an alarm for the release date. The Twenty Seven palette flew under my radar and I just figured I could pick up any warm neutral palette and be fine.

I checked the r/makeupaddiction Discord to see when the release date was and decided, eh, lemme give it another look. Seeing more swatches and looks, I caved. Plus, the sale was amazing! Their lipsticks for only $5?! ARE YOU KIDDING? YES. So here was my latest Melt Cosmetics haul:

Melt2Warm enough?

From top left to right, I got their  bronzer/highlight in Nova, which is a pretty gold color. I couldn’t really get it to show up on my skin but, I think I was stressing, but it still gave a nice glow from within look. Cali Dream and Honey Thief are wonderful warm toned blushes, with Cali Dream being a bit more on the pink/coral side. Shadowplay is a such a great shimmer highligher/blush topper. This and Ghostlight are my favorites to use for a glow highlighter with shifts of golds, greens and silvers. Love it. I haven’t played with the Haze stack yet, but, that might be my next venture when trying out the rest of my Melt stacks that I’ve acquired recently. Be on the look out for that!

Melt3Twenty Seven palette

At first look, it doesn’t look much. Just a typical warm palette, but the quality and pigmentation of these colors are so A+ Melt Cosmetics quality. The colors were so easy to blend without getting too muddy. Definitely loved Crimefighter and Moonchild the most. I applied Crimefighter with my finger to the inner and towards the center of my lid. I’ll try with a brush next time, but I loved how light and shimmery it looked. The picture doesn’t do it justice. I was actually surprised that Naked Sleep showed up well on my complexion. It’s the perfect transition color! Definitely gonna be using this palette a lot more to do warm grungy looks.

Neesa5Was NOT a good liner day.
Had to gradient them.

Left to Right: Voyeur – 710 – Mum – Old Fashioned – Blow – Blitzed

Melt4On my lips: 710 – Voyeur – Old Fashioned – Mum – Blow – Blitzed

I was a little worried when I tried 710 and Voyeur. They definitely had a lot more tug on my lips than I would’ve liked. But once applied, they looked so pretty with my eye look. When I tried on Old Fashioned, Mum (my favorite), they applied so smoothly and creamy texture. Lastly, Blow and Blitzed were interesting to work with. Blow needed to get warmed up a bit then it applied a lot more smooth. It stained and was a bit of a pain to take off. Blitzed was creamy and easy to apply as well. Can’t wait to wear these with different looks. Should be fun!

Overall, I really really loved this Melt haul. Almost everything worked out well and looked good on my complexion. Definitely happy and can’t wait for the next Melt Cosmetics line.

Haul me away!

Now playing: All Mine – Kanye West

The delivery guy came bearing gifts of beauty and fashion. And like the overeager and excited person I am to get packages, the urge to devour the tape from its cardboard-y limbs was very hard to control. But, after a few breathing exercises and clamoring for something sharp to rip the tape, the coveted contents I’ve been waiting for was within my grasp.

Sick bright lights, sun.

Well, what the sun washed out was my Colourpop and Jeffree Star Cosmetics hauls, along with my two t-shirts from Sick Girls Club. Thanks sun. ‘ppreciate it. Bleh. It is what it is.

I was pretty excited for everything to come in at once! I was pleasantly surprised with how fast the shipping for the SGC shirts, since they’re a Canadian brand.  I found them on my rabbit hole of looking through Instagram to find cool, Indie brands to support and stumbled across them. Their products are definitely up my alley. I was a bit worried cause the shipping was kind of meh, but,  I knew that it was coming from Canada so I can’t really complain. The cheapest shipping was without tracking but, I had some faith in the USPS so… I let #BasedGod take the wheel and placed the order. However, for all the Canadians out there, they do have free shipping within the country. Check them out.

Nevertheless, my order was placed AND processed on the 17th and shipped out on the 18th. Got it in the mail on the 25th. Not too shabby, considering it would’ve been sooner but, USPS doesn’t deliver on Sundays.

Back of the SGC Jersey!
Pocket detail of the Slumber Party Tee.

The shirts felt soft and good quality. I’m very excited to wear these out. They’re definitely my aesthetic. Can’t wait to pick up more things in the future. I WANT THE SWEATSHIRT. PLEASE COME BACK IN STOCK!

Moving on!

I already got the Blood Sugar and Red Mini Lip bundle (will do swatches of that later) so, it was only fair to continue adding to my J* collection. I snagged Cherry Wet and Coral Fixation liquid lipsticks from the summer collection since they were the main ones that caught my attention. Definitely had to grab Dominatrix and Weirdo liquid lipsticks, since those seem to go out of stock quite often. Lastly, Peach Popsicle lip scrub (it smells so oh-so good) and Skin Frost in Dark Horse. I wish I got the mirror in pink but, whatever. Red is still a great color.

Last but not least! Colourpop!

Affordably cute.

Here we have Colourpop’s new No Fliter Foundation in Medium 110 & Medium Dark 120 w/ their foundation brush in F17, No Filter Pressed Powder in Medium Dark, Neat Freak Lipgloss from the Shayla x CP collab, Luster Dust in Gnomie and Dew Drop, Super Shock Shadow in Tassel and they threw in a free lipgloss due to delayed delivery! They threw in Fairy Me from their Feelin’ Fine lip bundle. Nice.

PHEW! We made it to the end unscathed. But, this is only the beginning. I will be doing swatches and first impressions of all the products pictured. Please be on the look out for those in the future!

Until then, see you in the next post.

30 going on 13.

Now playing: Acceptable in the 80s – Calvin Harris

No wonder I still get carded.

I was super excited to wear this 80s inspired shirt from Mokuyobi. I was slightly worried about the fit and quality of it, but, one of my favorite fashionistas I follow, Glitterandlazers, hasn’t steered me wrong when it comes to clothes for plus-sized gals. I can attest that this shirt has easily become one of my new favorite thing to wear. It’s super comfortable and the sleeves are big (upper) arms approved. I was terrified that they would choke the crap out of my arms but, the sleeves were super stretchy! The shirt is very breathable and kinda sheer, but, most white tops are. So, just make sure you have a black or white bra ready.

img_2727Lid space for days.
img_2713Silently judging.

The shirt gave me an excuse to play more with my Radioactive stack from Melt Cosmetics. I didn’t want to go to ham on the eyeshadows. I wanted the shirt to be the star of the show. Nevertheless, I loved the quality of Melt’s shadows. The yellow was very buildable on a not stark white surface on my skin. It can get powdery, but it’s pigmented. I used Neon all over my lid and on my lower lash line and put Radon in my crease and blended it outwards for some color on my eyes. I tried to use Xenon but, I ended up just putting more Neon over top cause I just loved the yellow that much. Whoops.

Per my new tradition, I opted out of eyeliner and looking back at it, I kinda wished I didn’t. Hindsight is 20/20 (not my eyesight though, bleh). Just used my Milk Kush mascara and a little bit of Stila’s eye glitter in Karma Kitten to add more sparkle to my face. Last but not least, Melt’s bullet lipstick in 1969. Oh my word, do I love this color. It is very flattering on my complexion and I’m glad I grabbed it when it was on sale.

Overall, I liked the subtle look, but when I wear this shirt again, I’d probably throw some blues and greens in instead.

Myspace angles in 2018? More likely than you think.

“Make-up your mind” days.

Now playing: Latin Simone – Gorillaz (G-Side)

Ever have days where you just stare at all your makeup and wonder “Should I bother with makeup today?” Then the thought of the process that you normally love to set your face to the gods just seems grueling and tiresome? I get those days a lot. Just staring at my collection to try to get myself amp’d up to do a sweet look only for me to feel like I’m staring at kryptonite.

Those days turn into sweats and oversized t-shirt days. I tell myself I’m letting my skin rest but, that’s just a bad excuse.

But hey, we’re allowed to have lazy days cause when you’re in the mood to snatch your face to the high heavens, no one can tell you anything. So for now, I’ll admire my makeup collection and contemplate my next look. I’ve been missing wearing my Melt Cosmetics’ lipstick in “Tomboy” right about now to get my resting “bih” face selfies going again.

Cue transformation sequence!

Hello and welcome to my beauty and make-up blog. I am so glad that you stumbled across my page on this part of the internet. Please just sit back, grab a drink and enjoy browsing.

I’m Neesa. I’m a 30 year old woman of color that loves makeup and video games. I’ve studied art and computers in college and love merging the two to channel my creativity. With this blog, I want to express my creativity and give some insight to those that might be skeptical about certain products. Especially products that may or may not work on those with tan and deeper complexions. The struggles can be pretty real, but I hope that I can give some clarity and direction with the over saturation of the beauty industry. The market is flooded with so many products daily that it can be dizzying and almost overwhelming in what to spend your hard earned money on.

Therefore, I will do my best to give clear and concise reviews and swatches of said product to hope help with your purchasing decisions.

Again, thank you so much for your time! If you have any question, comments or suggestions of products you, as the consumer, would like to see, please let me know.

Have a wonderful day.
